How To Create An Outline In Inkscape

Making an outline around text in inkscape
So yeah, I just got Inkscape today, and it's pretty sweet. One thing I can't figure out, though, is how to make an outline of text. I know how to do it in Gimp, but not Inkscape... (Attached is an image made in Gimp to show what I mean in case I wasn't clear. The red is the outline.)
Oh yeah, and one other thing: how do you move things up and down -- that is, choose to place one object on top or below another?

or just just press the up or down key for raising or lowering the object.

, lower the object, then align the other.

Re: Making an outline around text in inkscape
With the text selected open the Fill and Stroke dialogue (Shift+Ctrl+F), then go to the Stroke paint tab and select flat colour or gradient or whatever you want. You can increase the thickness by going to the Stroke Style tab.

I would recommend what jhnthn suggested. And you can move one thing on top or below another thing using the page up and page down buttons. Move something to the very top or bottom with home and end (respectively).

Re: Making an outline around text in inkscape
My way, much simpler
Duplicate the same text, change the color
ctrl ( to reduce the size
OR
ctrl ) to increase the sizethen page down to bring it to the back
Do note this is not scaling.
